We accept flash fiction, short fiction, poetry, nonfiction, memoir, and art for publication in our online journal.
We are also seeking submissions for our featured "Mindful Musing" Monday blog post.
[We are not currently accepting unsolicited novel-length manuscripts. We will re-open those submissions after we finish reviewing our backlog.]
We publish new and established authors.
We do not accept previously published work (including self-publications and personal blogs).
Submissions should be double-spaced and submitted as a Microsoft Word document or PDF file.
We are happy to accept simultaneous submissions, but please withdraw your submission in a timely manner if it is accepted elsewhere.
We do our best to respond to all submissions within 1-6 months. If it's been longer than 6 months, feel free to inquire for an update.
There is no monetary payment, but we promote all writers we publish through our various social media outlets.
We accept submissions online through Submittable. (More info can be found there.)
A NOTE ABOUT AUTHOR RIGHTS:
We're big fans of author rights. When you publish with Bread & Beauty, you agree to three things:
You grant us first serial rights. Once your piece is published, rights revert back to you.
Your work will remain on our website permanently.
You grant us non-exclusive re-print rights. (We don't abuse this privilege. We may just use short excerpts of your work in promotional materials.)
After your work appears in Bread & Beauty, you're free to republish it or give others permission to republish it. All we ask is that you credit it as first appearing in Bread & Beauty.
JANUARY WRITING TIP:
“Each New Year, we have before us a brand new book containing 365 blank pages. Let us fill them with all the forgotten things from last year—the words we forgot to say, the love we forgot to show, and the charity we forgot to offer.” ― Peggy Toney Horton
